DANCE
At WAPA we help young people express themselves through Movement & Dance.
Students learn a variety of styles throughout the year, from street dance to jazz, contemporary to salsa, Irish, rock n roll, jive, commercial pop and many more.
Often dance is combined with song and drama during a musical theatre production including classic song & dance routines from famous Musicals such as Chicago, Hamilton, West Side Story, Hairspray, Annie, Oliver, Grease, Matilda...many more.
WAPA Students are encouraged to develop their own choreographic skills in class where original ideas are developed and incorporated into a piece involving the whole group, developing leadership and listening skills. Keen dancers also have the opportunity to take part in extra performance activities during the year such as working with live percussionists to develop new original African dance work. Dance at WAPA is fun and enjoyable. It helps develop co-ordination, strength and stamina and encourages students to keep fit and healthy and look after their bodies and themselves for the future.
Students take part in a minimum of two performances per year at their centre or in a professional theatre and also have the chance to perform in London’s West End.
